A job application checklist you can use before every submission
A strong resume can still be sent to the wrong opening or attached in the wrong format. Use this checklist at the point of submission, after you have tailored and reviewed your resume.
1. Confirm the opening and application route
Check the employer name, role title, location or remote policy, job reference and closing date. If you found the post through a third party, look for the matching opening on the employer’s official careers page before sharing personal information.
Separate essential requirements from preferences and note any screening questions. A missing requirement is a decision to consider, not a reason to invent experience. Use the advertised application route; an email does not replace a required portal submission.
- Correct employer, role and job reference
- Location and eligibility requirements reviewed
- Submission instructions and deadline checked
2. Check the files you will actually send
Open the exported resume, not only the editor preview. Check contact details, page breaks, dates, section order and links. Select and copy a passage to make sure the text is readable. Use the requested file format and size limit.
Read the resume against the job description once more. Relevant skills should have supporting experience or projects. If a cover letter is requested, check that it names this employer and role rather than a previous application.
- Accurate contact details and working portfolio links
- No invented skills, employers, dates or results
- Correct cover letter and readable attachments
- Clear filename, for example Alex-Rao-Resume.pdf
3. Review the form separately from the resume
Application portals may parse a resume into fields incorrectly. Verify the resulting employer names, dates, qualifications and contact details. Check required answers instead of assuming the upload filled them correctly.
Read declarations and privacy notices before submitting. Do not place confidential client work or unnecessary identity documents in a portfolio attachment. Only supply sensitive documents through a verified process when they are required.
4. Save a record of this application
Keep the confirmation, job reference, date, resume filename or version, and the contact or portal used. Record any stated response window so you know when to check back.
Waywright can help you tailor and review a resume, keep versions and record application status. An account is required. You submit the application yourself; approving a resume in Waywright does not apply for a job.
Employer: [company] Role / job reference: [title and ID] Location: [location or remote policy] Submitted: [date] Resume sent: [filename / version] Cover letter sent: [filename, if requested] Confirmation: [reference or saved email] Next check: [employer timeline or your reminder]
Frequently asked questions
What should I check after a portal imports my resume?
Review the populated contact details, employers, dates and qualifications against your file. Correct parsing mistakes before submitting, and check required questions that the upload may not have answered.
What documents do I need for a job application?
Use the job posting as your checklist. A resume is common; a cover letter, portfolio or other documents may be requested. Do not assume every employer requires the same attachments.
Does approving a resume in Waywright submit my application?
No. Approval saves the version you want to keep. Download it and submit it through the employer’s application process, then record the application status separately.
Put the checklist into practice
Upload your resume and paste a job description. Review the generated draft and approve the changes before downloading. Waywright is free to use. An account is required.
